Time for a logo redesign

Wise Owl Nursery and Pre-School is a family-run business in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Their existing logo was outdated, over 25 years old, inherited from the former owners, and they felt they had outgrown it. The time was right for a logo redesign.

They needed a logo that looked professional, a logo that would appeal to both children and parents alike. They had no strong design preferences but wanted the logo to communicate they offer both Nursery and Pre-School services and convey a sense of family, caring and safety.

A logo update

I set about simplifying the logo to give it a modern flat upgrade. Preserving only one element from the old logo that I felt was still relevant - the owl - the symbol of wisdom, knowledge and vigilance.

Using the owl symbol as the focus, I created a little family, with the largest taking the smallest under its wing, to instantly communicate family, caring and safety and reinforce the message that nursery and pre-school services are available.

In addition, by overhauling and simplifying the colour palette and fonts, the logo has a fresh, modern look showing customers they are up-to-date while still reflecting the ethos of the company.

Logo variations

For versatility, I also designed a horizontal version of the logo used on their building signage.

My logo pack also contains digital graphics files for print and screen use. As well as full-colour logos, I always include a greyscale and single colour version to make it more adaptable if full-colour printing is not a viable option.
